SHOWCASE

I call this piece, “The Exogorth Strikes Back,” or “The Empire Gets Struck.” After seeing the Millennium Falcon fly between the teeth of a space slug (technically known as an exogorth) in “The Empire Strikes Back” and later seeing that ship attached to the back of an Imperial Star Destroyer, I realized the scale of this scene was possible. I built Bandai’s 1/5000 scale Star Destroyer kit straight from the box, adding 15 LEDs to light the interior and engines. The slug is a latex puppet I was able to modify with additional paint around the mouth, then reinforced the interior with packing foam, plastic, and an aluminum bar. The base is a Zulux moon lamp with a jagged hole cut in the top and a few rocks attached. Overall it only took a couple of weeks to finish.
