Republic P-47D Thunderbolt. Tamiya kit #61090 1/48th scale.
Scheme chosen is “Oh Johnnie” flown by First Lieutenant Raymond L. Knight in northern Italy around 1945. Lt. Knight receive the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters posthumously. Look for his service history, worth a read.
About the build: the Tamiya P-47’s are a delight to build, easy, overall very nice fit. I chose to build it out of the box, no aftermarket parts were used.
Did a Mr surfacer 1500 Black and white preshading primer before painting to give variation to the several tones of mission models olive drabs. Vallejo aluminum was used for the wings. Tamiya paints for some airbrushed details like cockpit and wheel wells and Vallejo for the brush painted ones.
Decals are a mix of the box generic ones and custom made decals from @moixmodels
I can see myself building other Tamiya thunderbolt kit versions in the future, good price, ease of build and many colorful schemes to choose it’s a no brainer.
