Kit: Zvezda’s 1/72 Kamov Ka-50 “Black Shark,” a reboxing of Italeri’s 1993 release. The kit was built as part of my local club’s virtual helicopter group build during the Covid pandemic, between February and March 2021. It was built OOB with the exceptions of a Pavla resin seat, ResKit resin rocket packs, Mike Grant cockpit gauges and Begemot decals. The coaxial rotors were a bit challenging and it took 45 minutes to mask the deicing edges. Begemot’s decals worked well, but the shark mouth was wasn’t a perfect fit with asymmetrical left and right sides, requiring some compromise in placement. The tail profile was masked using a homemade template. Paints were a mix of Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics.
