SHOWCASE

Gravella Rapid Transit’s Eastern Road Station. Part of the City of Gravella model railroad layout.

The station was mostly built with custom designed 3D printed elements. Design inspired by the Washington DC Metro’s Hyattsville Crossing Station.

The headhouse is at street level, with fare machines and signage inside. The station manager’s kiosk has fare gates on either side. Passengers can access the platforms below by using an escalator or elevator. LED lights illuminate the interior.

On the platforms pillars have lights that consist of small LEDs inside clear beads. The platform edge has flashing LEDs just like the prototypical Washington Metro station. The lights flash when a train is approaching. On the outer sides of the platforms are tiered levels with flowers and bushes.

The running rails are supported by a 3D printed surface that mimics the concrete and metal cleats that are used in the prototypical WMATA station. Not working third rails are also in place.

Subway trains are Walthers models that were produced in the 1980s and early 1990s. They have DCC decoders installed along with LEDs for headlights, taillights, and route colors.
