The kit is a 1/72 Arma Hobby Hawker Hurricane Mk1 Trop. The Finnish Mk 1 version didn’t require the tropical filter so I omitted that from the build, the decals are after market decals bought from SBS MODELS. The plane it self HC-451 as part of LLv 32 based at SUULAJARVI in autumn/winter 1941. The colours for the camouflage are Tamiya flat black and olive green and the underside is flat aluminium with flat yellow for the nose, fuselage band and wing tips.
The camouflage design was from a photograph taken of the internet and MIG AMMO a masking sheet was used to create the design. To weather the model I used black oil paint thinned with white spirits to create the panel lines and oil paint to create the exhaust stains etc. I then used MIG AMMO weathering pencils to create a dirt effect around the nose area. For the chipping effect I painted base coat of flat aluminium then when dry I painted VALLEJO liquid mask to the areas to be chipped, once the camouflage was sprayed and masks removed the liquid mask was gently rubbed of to create the desired effect.
For the base I was used good old polyfila to mold the area, JARVIS SCENICS products for the grass, hedgerows, and leaves and AK MICRO BALLS from the snow effects, again for the snow on the aircraft I referenced images from the internet. The built took around 10 days to complete spending around 1-2 hrs a night after work. As for a name for the build I don’t have one but I suppose FIRST SNOW OF WINTER sounds ok.
