These were the modifications to Dysfunction Junction’s 1/25 engine shapes and contours. I based the shape and technology around the United of Yucatan 66, pics here from 1953. Here’s how I went from the look of the 1860’s Civil War to something resembling a 1920’s-30’s look. No particular technology, just a reasonable representation. From my research, these American 4-4-0 engines were used up through the 1950’s. Fewer than forty 4-4-0s survive in preservation in the United States today; another reason this look appealed to me. This was reshaping the cab and domes to achieve that. I added the fin extensions to the rear cab, curved the roof, re-built the steam dome and its mounting plate, and re-shaped the sand dome with styrene and greenstuff. Once done, I added the various rivets, levers, bolts, and fasteners. Some paint and weathering gives us the final look.
